In early September, our pregnant daughter received terrible news. Her unborn baby boy was diagnosed with issues incompatible with life. We were devastated and expected a stillbirth in the coming days. All tests indicated baby Benjamin would no longer grow and develop, he was already declining, said the doctors.
Our daughter and her husband were given the gut-wrenching option to terminate the pregnancy but chose not to and returned home from the hospital heartbroken.
That was over a month ago. Against the odds, our grandson is still growing in our daughter’s womb. He’s kicking around like normal babies do and we are already very attached to him. We are hopeful and scared and praying fervently for his healing.
Will you please pray for a miracle with us that Benjamin will arrive whole and healthy and beautiful this winter?
If he does not survive, we know God has purposes and plans we don’t always understand, but until God shows us another way to pray, we are holding onto “the Lord has done great things for us, we are joyful,” Psalm 126:3.
Already Benjamin is proving to be a precious little soul helping us develop greater faith and trust in Jesus. The Bible says, “As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in the mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things,” Ecclesiastes 11:5.
We are confident God has his loving hand on Benjamin. Psalm 139:13-14 assures us that the Lord is creating Benjamin, for scripture says, “You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
I have to be honest, my faith ebbs and flows right now. Some days I feel sure and strong and confident in God’s goodness and mercy and love, and other days I spend in tears and sadness and “what ifs.”
We know that all of us will go through trials on this earth. Jesus says, “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart, I have overcome the world,” John 16:33.
If you need a miracle too, let me know and I will pray for you. Thank you so much for your emails of love and support in September. Our family is deeply grateful for your prayers. Love you, Paula
