Four young men gave their lives protecting their girlfriends in the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. Laying their bodies over the women they loved. Amid the coverage of this American tragedy, I long to see these four men’s faces plastered all over the news. I want to hear about their lives. See their baby pictures. Meet their parents. Walk through their high school days. Relive their dreams. Retell their love stories. See pictures of these couples when they were smiling.
Don’t tell me about the shooter. Tell me about the ones who saved.
One man with evil in his heart tried to darken America. Four men with love in their hearts redeemed this country.
That’s what love does. It redeems.
Evil can’t overcome love. Not in the long run. Not in the life run. Four women are alive today because heroic men loved them.
Jesus said there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend. Then Jesus proved his love by laying down his life for us.
The Bible says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.
